Abstract:

Abstract Background and Aim: High chipping rates of the veneering porcelain of zirconia ceramic restorations have been reported in clinical studies. Thus, the shear bond strength (SBS) between the zirconia core and veneering porcelain requires investigation. Materials and Methods: In this in-vitro study, at first, using a computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) machine, 16 zirconia cores of Kerox were provided. Using the casting method, 16 base metal cores were provided. All the cores were veneered with the Creation ceramic veneer. Afterwards, the samples were put under a static force in the universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/minute until fracture. T-test was used to analyze the data. Results: The mean SBS for the base metal and zirconia groups was 27±7.43 and 27.75±8.75 Megapascal (MPa), respectively (P=0.812). Conclusion: There was no significant difference between the metal-ceramic and zirconia ceramic groups in SBS so that the Creation ceramic veneer may solve the problems related to the bond of all-ceramics to ceramic veneers.

Evaluation of the Effect of Sandblasting (120 μm) on Shear Bond Strength between Ceramic Veneer and Zirconia Core

Background and Aim: Due to the importance of the bond strength between zirconia core (ZC) and porcelain veneer (PV) as well as the paradox about the functionality of sandblasting on the solidity between those layers, this research aimed to evaluate the effect of sandblasting on the shear bond strength (SBS) between ZC and PV. Materials and Methods: After preparing 20 zirconia discs (7 mm &time...

Bond strength of veneer ceramic and zirconia cores with different surface modifications after microwave sintering

PURPOSE To evaluate the effects of surface treatments on shear bond strength (SBS) between microwave and conventionally sintered zirconia core/veneers. MATERIALS AND METHODS 96 disc shaped Noritake Alliance zirconia specimens were fabricated using YenaDent CAM unit and were divided in 2 groups with respect to microwave or conventional methods (n=48/group). Surface roughness (Ra) evaluation wa...

Shear Bond Strength of Metal brackets to Zirconia Treated with Er:YAG Laser Sandblasting and Silane

Background and Aim: Application of zirconia ceramics has increased. Since the commonly used surface treatment for porcelain, i.e. acid etching is not efficient for zirconia surfaces, evaluation of other surface treatment methods for zirconia is important. The aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of metal brackets to zirconia treated with different powers of Er:YAG lase...

Shear bond strength of veneering porcelain to zirconia and metal cores

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Zirconia-based restorations have the common technical complication of delamination, or porcelain chipping, from the zirconia core. Thus the shear bond strength between the zirconia core and the veneering porcelain requires investigation in order to facilitate the material's clinical use. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bonding strength of the porcela...

Evaluation of shear bond strength between dual cure resin cement and zirconia ceramic after thermocycling treatment

PURPOSE This study was performed to evaluate shear bond strength (SBS) between three dual-cured resin cements and silica coated zirconia, before and after thermocycling treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty specimens were cut in 15 × 2.75 mm discs using zirconia. After air blasting of 50 µm alumina, samples were prepared by tribochemical silica coating with Rocatec™ plus. The specimens were ...

effect of co2 and nd:yag lasers on shear bond strength of resin cement to zirconia ceramic

objectives : because of poor bond between resin cement and zirconia ceramics, laser surface treatments have been suggested to improve adhesion. the present study evaluated the effect of co 2 and nd:yag lasers on the shear bond strength (sbs) of resin cement to zirconia ceramic. materials and methods : ninety zirconia disks (6×2 mm) were randomly divided into six groups of 15. in the control gro...
